Yoga asanas are not about perfect shapes. We all see it – those instagram-worthy yogis in incredibly flexible postures – and inevitably think we’re not good enough when we can barely touch our toes (if we’re lucky 😉). Asanas all have a function both on a physical and energetic level. As long as we’re in touch with our experience and noticing what’s going on that’s what matters. Adaptations are a necessary part of this – use class time to learn what ways you can adapt postures to suit your needs so you can get the most out of it both there and in your home practice. We will all need adaptations to some asanas to fully experience them without risk of injury from pushing to look like some idealised version. Put ego aside and get more from your postures by not being ‘perfect’!
